Trade Marks Case Study

Our client wished to register a certification mark, which is awarded to parties who are able to meet certain qualifying criteria. For those who are awarded it, the certification mark may be used to signify that the party meets the qualifying criteria.

Certification marks are difficult to obtain, as the hurdles to registration are greater in number and higher than for regular commercial trade marks for product and services.

After numerous rounds of discussions with the UK Trade Mark Office, we were able to secure registration of the certification mark for our client. The mark is still being used and awarded today and underpins a wide-ranging publicity campaign and awards for regional food producers.
